About Buckcherry

Buckcherry is a rock band formed in Anaheim, California in 1995. The band released two albums in 1999 and 2001 before dissolving in 2002. The band eventually reformed with original members; lead vocalist Josh Todd and lead guitarist Keith Nels forming a new lineup in 2006. 

The reformed band released a new album in 2006 that contained the band’s biggest hits to date, “Crazy Bitch” and “Sorry”. “Sorry” was notable for being the band’s first Billboard Hot 100 top ten hit. 

The band continued to record albums releasing five between 2008 and 2019. Then they released their most recent album this past June 25, 2021.

The Band Forms: 1995–1999

The band got its start in Anaheim with Josh Todd, who had grown up in the Anaheim Hills neighborhood. He later moved to Lake Forest and showed an early talent for music when he fronted for the Hollywood glam rock band Slamhound. He eventually met lead guitarist Keith Nelson through a mutual tattoo artist. The duo made a few demos then were joined by bassist Jonathan Brightman and drummer Devon Glenn.

This new group called themselves Sparrow and performed around the Hollywood club scene and developed a strong local following due to their old school rock vibe. They were signed onto DreamWorks Records shortly after.

The band changed their name to Buckcherry after receiving a cease-and-desist letter from a record label called Sparrow. The new name was a spoonerism of the late Chuck Berry, but the group insisted that the name was inspired by a drag queen acquaintance named Buck Cherry.

Hellbound: 2021–present

The reformed band had been growing increasingly successful. So fans were happy when Buckcherry announced their ninth album, Hellhound. The album was released on June 25, 2021 through Earache Records and Round Hill Records. It was supported by the release of the single “So Hott” and an accompanying music video which was nominated for Classic Rock magazine’s “Track of the Week”. The album was also supported by a tour that ran from June 2021 – November 2021.
